What started more than 200 years ago as a wedding celebration in Munich, Germany, is now a world-wide celebration of something even more sacred and beautiful. Beer.
We're talking Oktoberfest, and we're crunching 16 days of festivities into one Chicago evening full of beer, food, and Vergnügen (fun!). Join CitySwarm for a one-night Oktoberfest Pub Crawl to some of Chicago's most authentic German bars. Our celebration begins at 6:00 PM at The Berghoff, conveniently located in the heart of the Loop. You've probably passed by 100 times, not knowing that this historic Chicago landmark (family owned and operated since 1898) received the first liquor license in Chicago after Prohibition. They also have their own Berghoff beer, first sold at the Chicago's World Fair of 1893! To kickoff our crawl, each guest will receive a Berghoff Dortmunder-style beer, the perfect pairing to our spread of authentic German foods including mini brats, Bavarian pretzels, and potato pancakes with all the fixins! At 7:00 PM, our private trolley from Chicago Trolley will scoop us up and take us to Lincoln Square (the epicenter of German culture in Chicago) and drop us off at the famed Chicago Brauhaus where another beer stein awaits! Chicago Brauhaus, about to featured on the Food Network, boasts one of the most traditional Bavarian atmospheres in Chicago. You'll feel like you're in Germany as you dance and yodel to the live music of Brauhaus Oktoberfest Trio featuring Gody (a.k.a. The Austrian Elvis)! Just as your limbs begin to ache from too much chicken dancing, our trusty trolley will grab us again and shuttle us to a modern take on the German Beer Hall - the newly re-opened Prost! in Lincoln Park! After being closed for two years, this neighborhood favorite is more-than-ready to entertain with six times its former capacity, dozens of German beers on tap, and Chef Ian Flowers (of the LOKal) serving up German-meets-gourmet cuisine. One last stein awaits as you celebrate the season (that is, until someone orders up Das Boot). This trolley is also BYOB, so feel free to bring extra beer...it is Oktoberfest after all! Gemütlichkeit! |
